File & URL Virus Scanner — Check for Malware Before You Open or Visit
Scan a file or URL against multiple antivirus engines at once before downloading it or clicking through — catching threats that a single antivirus might miss, since different engines detect different signatures.
How it works
This tool checks your file or URL against a multi-engine scanning service that runs the submission through dozens of antivirus engines simultaneously, rather than relying on just one detection database. A result showing "0 of 70 engines flagged this" is a meaningfully stronger signal than a single antivirus giving it a pass.
What it checks
- File scanning — upload a file to check it against known malware signatures across multiple engines before opening it
- URL scanning — check a link for malware distribution or phishing before clicking, especially useful for a link received from an unfamiliar source
When this is worth doing
- Before opening an email attachment from an unfamiliar sender, even if it looks legitimate
- Before downloading software from a site you don't fully trust, particularly free tools or cracked software (a common malware delivery method)
- Before clicking a shortened or unfamiliar link sent through chat, social media, or a comment section
A note on limits
No scanner, including multi-engine ones, catches 100% of threats — brand-new malware can slip past detection until engines update their signatures. A clean scan result is a strong positive signal, not an absolute guarantee. Combine this with our Suspicious Domain Checker for URLs, since domain reputation and malware signature scanning catch different kinds of threats.
How to use it
- Upload the file or paste the URL
- Wait for the multi-engine scan to complete
- Review which engines (if any) flagged it, and treat a majority-clean result as reasonably safe, not absolute certainty
